Social Media – A Dangerous Source of Knowledge

With the time, when I started grasping the knowledge on “World History” and “India History”, I have learned and realized on so many things, and I got to know about more facts. But, it is not over yet, everyday after reading an article or watching a video about Indian History, I have realized lot many things..! How we are fooled and cheated by our Academic books and it’s creators, and today suddenly we got an access to lot of knowledge resources and the saddest thing is, we don’t know which one to believe..! Today, we have search engines like Google, encyclopedias, social media and a lot but if you observe Wikipedia, it will give you a history but it’s up to you how you are going to take or adopt, and we usually absorb anything from the state of my mind, if you like somebody or you have a positive opinion on somebody then you will read more about that particular person and if you have negative opinion then we skip or we get attracted to similar type of articles which are highlighting the bad about that particular person, that means we don’t actually analyse.

And, when you look at social media, I believe this is very dangerous thing we have ever created, because it works depends on your affinity. Have you ever asked a Question why do you like and spend most of your time on “Facebook” or “Twitter” or for that matter any social media.? You like them because, they created algorithms and defined tactics, which makes you to visit more and more times. This is called Affinity, based on your affinity that means Facebook will store all your browsing details, and scans your interests and your daily activities, i.e.liking, sharing, re-tweeting, and commenting a particular post, or page or a tweet. So, based on your daily activities they will show you the news feed, so that you will visit more and more times in the future. In simple words if you like a topic related to arts, you will see the news feed majorly related to that particular topic. So, because of this you are loosing an opportunity to look at other things i.e. you are blocked..! and you are Manipulated with their algorithms..!!

I will give you my example, when I was in my initial days, I was troubling to master the language English and knowledge on Digital Marketing (Of course, I am still troubling..:P), what I did was,.. earlier I used to see the news feed mostly related to my favorite actor, favorite political party or regional news, but then I started engaging with the sources which I want, I started liking English news channels pages, commenting on posts, and shared and re-tweeted posts, so eventually I am able to see the news feed which are important and matters to me.

But, here is the real danger, the current generations specially in India, are fascinated by the Social Media and we are the generations who were taught nonintellectual knowledge in our schools, colleges and companies. So, we are not good at our history we don’t know lot many facts about our country and at least about our state or city. With the time our rulers and academicians changed and created books according to their Ideology, i.e. technically we were cheated..!

And, today when we got an access to Social Media, Search Engines and other knowledge resources, we are able to see very limited knowledge and because of this we are actually coming to the conclusion that “It’s True or False”or “yes..! This is the Fact” and eventually we started hating or loving a particular person or subject. And this is very dangerous.

So personally, when I started reading books and knowing the facts and truths of this world, I was amazed to know that I was fooled and my generations were fooled and they are still doing it..! We are lack of intellectual resources, earlier we had Libraries and Knowledge resources those were carefully designed and maintained, and today Social Media become an Instant library, where you go and comment and like some pages and your friend’s photos etc. and you read some articles, but are we ever imagined or asked a question that, are these true..? Will a 140 characters tweet decides the character and image of Gandhi..? or 500 words of short blog (It is a marketing tactic that, 300, 500 words articles are more popular because people don’t have time to read) explains the history of India and role of some people in independence history..? No, never..!! No one in this world is perfect so, that applies to all these people too, and we are falsified by this knowledge which are written by non intellectual persons just to achieve their Monthly Targets (Most of your favorite social media articles and writers are reviewed based on these metrics – Likes, Shares, Page Views, Traffic etc. but not the depth of knowledge) but, no one thinks about “The future of our generations..? They will also learn false knowledge and they will also influenced by somebody and they will lose their Creativity, Imagination, and Analyzing skills with the time..!” and this will repeat again..!

What I suggest all my people is, try to get an access to Intellectual Knowledge, Read more Books, analyse and compare..! Then with the time you will understand the REAL TRUTH of everything..!! then you decide  to what to respond, whom to elect and then decide about Freedom of Speech..!!

Read the following article which made me to write this..an extension to this article..!
